MyMathLab Course Information: We will be utilizing MyMathLab for homework through a joint code for the Thomas Calculus text and the Lay Linear Algebra text. In order to register, you will need our course ID posted here to enroll into the course on MML for your section. Here is the course ID information:

Important notes on MML:

·       If you already have an account on MyMathLab using this combined textbook within the past 18 months, then you do not need to purchase a new code. Log in your account on MyMathLab, select the option to add a new course, and enter our course ID. If you encounter the difficulty on this, please contact Pearson’s customer service to result the problem.

·       If you do not have a MyMathLab account using the Thomas or Lay textbooks, or if your account is over 18 months old, you will need to purchase a new code for our course. Please refer to the registration document, located in the “Resources” section on Canvas, to create your new account.

When signing up for MyMathLab, it will be immensely helpful  (for grading purposes) if you will set your STUDENT ID to your USERID for the GT system (i.e., your Canvas USERID, as in “gburdell3”, etc).

MyMathLab comes with an entire electronic version of the textbook; it is your choice if you would also like to own the textbook in print. You may purchase a MyMathLab code either from the bookstore or on-line while registering at http://www.mymathlab.com. If you prefer to own a hardcopy of the text, the bookstore offers packages of MyMathLab combined with a loose-leaf or hardcover version of the Thomas textbook that is less expensive than purchasing the text and code separately.

PLEASE NOTE: GEORGIA TECH HAS A SPECIAL CODE PACKAGE THAT INCLUDES BOTH TEXTBOOKS.

THIS CODE CAN ONLY BE PURCHASED THROUGH THE CAMPUS BOOKSTORES OR DIRECTLY FROM PEARSON.

CODES PURCHASED BY OTHER VENDORS WILL NOT WORK!

Homework:

Homework is on-line through MyMathLab.
It is strongly recommended to work out every problem in the assignments before each quiz.

Quizzes & Exams

There will be a quiz every two weeks in your studio. Quizzes are based on homework assignments, and other tests will be more in traditional format. Steps, reasonings, and relatively detailed calculations are required for quizzes and other tests. We will have two midterms and one final exam. Quizzes and exams will be graded through Gradescope. Once an assessment is graded, you will have three days to submit a regrade request. You can do this by accessing Gradescope from Canvas, clicking the option for a regrade request, and following the instructions. Regrade requests will not be considered unless they are made in this manner through Gradescope. Only under extreme extenuating circumstances will you be able to take the final exam at a different time or date. Early travel plans (including already-purchased tickets) are not an acceptable reason for this.

Students with Disabilities and/or in need of Special Accommodations

Georgia Tech complies with the regulations of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and offers accommodationsto students with disabilities. If you are in need of classroom or testing accommodations, please make an appointment with the Office of Disability Services to discuss the appropriate procedures. More information is available on their website. Please also make an appointment with me to discuss your accommodation, if necessary.

Academic Honesty

All students are expected to comply with the Georgia Tech Honor Code (the honor code can be found at http://www.policylibrary.gatech.edu/student-affairs/code-conduct). Any evidence of cheating or other violations of the Georgia Tech Honor Code will be submitted directly to the Dean of Students. Cheating includes, but is not limited to:

·       Using an unapproved calculator, books, or any form of notes on tests.

·       Copying directly from any source, including friends, classmates, tutors, internet sources (including Wolfram Alpha), or a solutions manual.

·       Allowing another person to copy your work.

·       Taking a test or quiz in someone else's name, or having someone else take a test or quiz in your name.

·       Asking for a regrade of a paper that has been altered from its original form.
We catch many cheaters every year. Don’t do it!

Missed work policy

You may only receive credit for missed quizzes or exams in the following circumstances.(1) University-approved absence: Please give your instructor notice by the second Wednesday of the semester, or as soon as possible once your absence has been approved. (2) Religious holiday: By the second Wednesday of the semester, you must notify your instructor of any classes (including studio) you will miss due to religious holidays. (3) Illness: Except under extenuating circumstances, you must notify your instructorin advance and notify the Office of the Dean of Students if you will miss a quiz, so that they can confirm it with your instructor. (4) In case of a family emergency, please have your academic advisor or the Dean’s office contact your instructor.
Otherwise, missed quizzes and missed exams result in a 0. If you will miss an exam, then you must notify your instructor in advance and provide any necessary documentation to the Dean’s office so that they may contact your instructor with verification. In the case of an excused absence for a quiz, you may be able to take a makeup quiz if this makeup occurs within a short time frame of the quiz itself. Otherwise, the next quiz will count double. If you have an excused absence for an exam, then you may take a makeup exam on the Monday immediately following the exam. If this is not possible, then the weight for that exam will be shifted equally to your remaining exams (including the final exam).

Grading:

Grades will be based on the exams, quizzes, and on-line homework.

Your best five quizzes (Gradescope) count for 20%;

On-line homework counts for 20%.

Gradescope Midterms count for 40% (20% each).

Gradescope final exam counts for 20%.

If no curve is applied, your final grade will be assigned as a letter grade according to the following scale:

A 90.0-100%

B 80.0-89.9%

C 70.0-79.9%

D 60.0-69.9%

F 0-59.9%

Curves:

When it is needed, curves will be determined by the median of each studio section after final exam according to the end-of-semester grade distribution. In this course, we will only apply curves on the overall course grades, not for any individual one.
